Create with Art & Poetry

“Creative activity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual.” – Arthur Koestler

Each week, a different theme is introduced and explored through the use of poetry and art. This powerful combination provides us with a means of self-expression.  Through a variety of art materials and techniques, you will be encouraged to explore and experiment in a supportive environment.  During these sessions, you will be able to practice and develop skills to create a piece of artwork around a chosen theme.  Alternatively, you may choose to continue to develop your writing inspired by the poetry we read together at the start of the session.
Here are some examples of wonderful artwork from a recent session on the theme of Butterflies:

“On a personal level, the class is a very important outlet for maintaining my mental well-being. Freewriting and writing in response to prompts help me articulate my worries and challenges and express things I didn’t know how to put into words. The variety of poems has nurtured my enthusiasm, for poetry and with Laura’s encouragement I have entered competitions and joined workshops which have helped me immensely socially. But this is the only face-to-face class – as a wheelchair user, finding accessible activities in the area can be difficult- I like the opportunity to get out of my house and share space with others” –Hannah, student
